The Prince George Astronomical Observatory will be open on Friday, October 10 at 7:30 pm for a public open house event. Malhar’s astronomical talk ‘ExoPlanets’ will start at 7:45 pm and will be followed by observing the night sky with some of the observatory’s telescopes, weather permitting. The evening will cool off so dress appropriately. Please consider a suggested donation of $2/person or $5/family so we can continue to offer public events such as this.

This artists’s cartoon view gives an impression of how common planets are around the stars in the Milky Way. The planets, their orbits and their host stars are all vastly magnified compared to their real separations. A six-year search that surveyed millions of stars using the microlensing technique concluded that planets around stars are the rule rather than the exception. The average number of planets per star is greater than one.
